Softball Game Preview: Taft Wildcats vs. Shafter Generals

For the second straight game, Taft will face off against Shafter. The Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Generals at 6:00 p.m. Taft is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Taft turned things around against Shafter on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Generals 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since May 17, 2024.

Rilynne Stenderup was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Stenderup was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Jaycee Edgar and Heaven Laux did most of the damage at the plate: Edgar went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Laux went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Laux has posted since back in March.

Shafter's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 14-6-2. As for Taft, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.
