Softball Recap: Eureka Loggers vs. Fortuna Huskies
Eureka extended their losing streak to 13 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-14-1 in the process. They fell 10-6 to the Fortuna Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-7 defeat on April 5th.
Eureka saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Macy Secor, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
As for Fortuna, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games.
On Fortuna's side, Isabel Sanchez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Sanchez has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Mariah Bravo and Olivia Hayes did most of the damage at the plate: Bravo got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Hayes went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave Hayes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sephora Machado, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
