Football Recap: Watonga Eagles vs. Hooker Bulldogs

Friday just wasn't the day for Watonga's offense. They were dealt a 53-0 loss at the hands of the Hooker Bulldogs on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 226th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 40th).

Watonga didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ivan Carmona and Chris Garcia.

Hooker found their leader in sophomore Justin Palacios, who rushed for 79 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Kleat Martens, who threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns.

Watonga dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Hooker, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Watonga will take on Merritt at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Watonga is facing Merritt at the right time seeing as Merritt is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Hooker, they will square off against Crescent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hooker knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Crescent likes a good challenge.
