The Orange Beach Makos will challenge the Opp Bobcats at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. Orange Beach is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 13 games.
Orange Beach is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ashford a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Makos have won 32 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaitlynn Robertson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other pitching news, MK McMullan looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Orange Beach let Jayde Palmer and Teagan Revette run wild. Palmer went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Revette went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Palmer has posted since back in March. Katie King was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Orange Beach kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 13 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Opp put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Satsuma 2-0.
Opp's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Madie Wilson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Opp is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 33-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Orange Beach, they pushed their record up to 41-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Orange Beach hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .452. However, it's not like Opp struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
