Softball Recap: Arizona College Prep Snaps Nine-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Arizona College Prep dropped their record down to 20-5 on Thursday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Desert Mountain Wolves by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Knights have suffered since March 28, 2024.

Liliana Gagnon was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk).

At the plate, Arizona College Prep saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rachel Cain, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Desert Mountain, the victory was the 19th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

On Desert Mountain's side, Lilly 'Goose' Goodwin made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Goodwin has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 17 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Desert Mountain let McKinsey Beyer and Cyan De Luigi run wild. Beyer went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while De Luigi went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI De Luigi has posted since back in March. Avery Gehrke was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Coming up, Arizona College Prep will square off against Sunrise Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Desert Mountain, they will face off against Campo Verde at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
