Softball Game Preview: Eastlake Wolves vs. Bothell Cougars

The Eastlake Wolves will face off against the Bothell Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Eastlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Eastlake and Issaquah meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Wolves fell 10-5 to the Eagles.

Addi Baumgartner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and five unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mia Atkins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Heather Lloyd, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Bothell and Redmond meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Cougars came up short against the Mustangs, falling 15-1.

Bothell now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Eastlake, they dropped their record down to 4-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Bothell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Eastlake hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. It's a different story for Bothell, though, as they've only averaged .233. Will they be able to contain Eastlake's hitters?

Eastlake took their win against Bothell in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 12-3 score. Do the Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
