Basketball Recap: Omarion Burgess Key Part of a Team Effort in Patriots Win

Independence won the last time they faced East Mecklenburg and things went their way on Thursday too. Everything went the Independence Patriots' way against the East Mecklenburg Eagles as the Independence Patriots made off with a 69-45 win. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Independence got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Omarion Burgess out in front who posted 13 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Burgess a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lusemo Macharia, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.

Despite the loss, East Mecklenburg still got an impressive performance from Ahmari Hicks, who went 11 for 19 en route to 29 points.

Independence has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points per game. As for East Mecklenburg, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.

Independence wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 71-50 win against Rocky River on the 14th. As for East Mecklenburg, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 79-54 loss against Charlotte Catholic on the 14th.
