Soccer Game Preview: Pagosa Springs vs. Colorado Academy

The Pagosa Springs Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Colorado Academy Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pagosa Springs has given up an average of 2.8 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Pagosa Springs is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to five goals on Thursday, they were much more limited against Fruita Monument on Friday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 10-0.

Meanwhile, Colorado Academy had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Eagles a 5-0 shutout. Considering Colorado Academy have won eight matches by more than four goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Their offense was hitting Stargate School from everywhere, as five different players booted in a goal.

Colorado Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-1-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those three games. As for Pagosa Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Pagosa Springs suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Colorado Academy in their previous meeting back in May of 2019. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
