Preview: Central Bears vs. Weeki Wachee Hornets
Central has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against The Weeki Wachee Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Central took a serious blow against Nature Coast Tech, falling 50-14. While losing is never fun, Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 464th, while Nature Coast Tech is ranked 215th).
The losing side was boosted by Talyn Poole, who rushed for 35 yards and two touchdowns.
Weeki Wachee can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against Anclote by a score of 20-8. The win was just what Weeki Wachee needed coming off of a 55-0 loss in their prior match.
Adrian Cabezudo and Richard Hanshaw were among the main playmakers for Weeki Wachee as the former picked up 114 receiving yards and three touchdowns and the latter threw for 269 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Weeki Wachee's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. Anclote's QB won't forget Tyler Ciccio anytime soon given Ciccio sacked him four times.
Nature Coast Tech's victory bumped their season record to 7-2 while Central's defeat dropped theirs to 2-6.
Central beat Weeki Wachee 26-14 in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Central since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
