Basketball Game Preview: Phoenix Day School for the Deaf Roadrunners vs. Desert Heights Prep Yote

Having just played yesterday, the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf Roadrunners will get right back to it and host the Desert Heights Prep Yote at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing isn't great for Phoenix Day School for the Deaf: they have been struggling with seven straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Desert Heights Prep has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Maryvale Prep on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Phoenix Day School for the Deaf was dealt a 61-34 defeat at the hands of Maryvale Prep. The Roadrunners were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-13.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Donovan Etheridge, who went 7 for 11 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists, and David Garcia, who posted seven points along with five boards and three steals. Those seven assists gave Etheridge a new career-high.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Phoenix Day School for the Deaf was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Desert Heights Prep made easy work of North Phoenix Preparatory Academy on Tuesday and carried off a 59-37 victory. The Yote have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Desert Heights Prep, their win bumped their record up to 8-3.

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf was dealt a bruising 71-24 loss at the hands of Desert Heights Prep in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Desert Heights Prep's Luke Beck, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds.
