Softball Preview: Poquoson Islanders vs. Grafton Clippers

The Poquoson Islanders will take on the Grafton Clippers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Poquoson's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Grafton has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Poquoson came out on top against Tabb on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Islanders took their contest against the Tigers 9-4.

Natalie Klochak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Camryn Drewry was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Morse, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Poquoson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tabb only posted a batting average of .269.

New Kent hit Grafton with a four-run fourth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Clippers lost 11-1 to the Trojans.

Poquoson's win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Grafton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8.

Poquoson's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Islanders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Grafton, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Poquoson continue to outrun the ball?
