Preview: Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs vs. Akron Rams
After three games on the road, Haxtun is heading back home. They will take on the Akron Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Haxtun will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while Akron is ranked 67th).
Last Saturday, Haxtun lost to Wray on the road by a decisive 49-35 margin.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Cassidy Goddard, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emily Anderson, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Akron was able to grind out a solid victory over Hi-Plains on Thursday, taking the game 49-41.
It was another big night for Kinsey Grauer, who scored 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kashlee Randel, who scored ten points.
Haxtun's loss was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Akron, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Haxtun have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 34.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Akron struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Haxtun suffered a grim 46-26 defeat to Akron in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Will Haxtun have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
