Basketball Game Preview: Ashe County Huskies vs. Alexander Central Cougars

Ashe County is 1-9 against Alexander Central since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Ashe County Huskies just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Alexander Central Cougars at 8:00 p.m. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Bryce Peters and Jayon Connor.

In Wednesday's Canine Competition, Ashe County didn't have enough. They came up short against North Surry on Wednesday, falling 80-54.

Meanwhile, Alexander Central strolled past North Wilkes with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 44-29.

Ashe County better focus on containing Connor and Jaheim Redmond as the pair were huge in Alexander Central's win. Connor posted 18 points and six rebounds, while Redmond had eight points along with six assists and six boards. The contest was Connor's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmir Miller, who posted six points.

Alexander Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Alexander Central's record is now 6-7. As for Ashe County, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Ashe County might still be hurting after the 64-39 defeat they got from Alexander Central in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Ashe County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
