Baseball Recap: Clearwater Valley Finds Playoff Glory Versus Prairie

With a playoff win on the line, Clearwater Valley rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the Prairie Pirates by a score of 7-3. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won five in a row.

Conner Christensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Barak Meyer was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Clearwater Valley is 14-1 when Meyer posts two or more runs, but 3-9 otherwise. Carson Schilling also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Clearwater Valley's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-10. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Prairie, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-8.

Clearwater Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
