It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Jacksonville had no problem doing just that on Friday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the South Johnston Trojans. The victory was nothing new for the Cardinals as they're now sitting on five straight.
Vasco Sutton was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Sutton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jace Brindel, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Jacksonville pushed their record up to 15-10 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for South Johnston, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-8.
Looking ahead, Jacksonville will take on North Brunswick on Tuesday. South Johnston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
