Baseball Game Preview: Elgin Comets vs. Ridgemont Golden Gophers

The Elgin Comets will square off against the Ridgemont Golden Gophers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Elgin is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

On Wednesday, Elgin narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Kenton 9-8. That's two games straight that the Comets have won by just one run.

The team relied heavily on Peyton Zempter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cooper Lykins, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Ridgemont couldn't beat Fairbanks on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the second inning. The Golden Gophers lost 16-9 to the Panthers. The defeat continues a trend for the Golden Gophers in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost nine in a row.

Ridgemont got a big performance out of Ethan Moore, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kody Kiser, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Ridgemont now has a losing record of 3-4-1. As for Elgin, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3-1.
