Softball Game Preview: Don Lugo Conquistadores vs. Chino Cowboys

For the second straight game, Don Lugo will face off against Chino. The Conquistadores will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against the Cowboys at 3:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Don Lugo has seven straight wins, Chino has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Don Lugo lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Chino, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's matchup. The Conquistadores put the hurt on the Cowboys with a sharp 17-9 victory on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Conquistadores, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

Randi Barrios made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Camila Franco was a standout: she went 2-for-6 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Leylah Ramirez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Don Lugo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive contests.

Don Lugo's win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Chino, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
