Softball Recap: Oneida Wins Going Away Against Jellico

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Oneida). They were the clear victor by a 17-6 margin over the Jellico Blue Devils on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won seven in a row.

Jolie Duncan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Shoemaker, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three doubles. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in doubles. Another player making a difference was Lauren Stephens, who scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

Oneida always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Oneida's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Jellico, they dropped their record down to 2-3 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Oneida will have a chance to go back-to-back against Jellico: the pair will be back at it again later today.
