Softball Game Preview: Calvary Christian Warriors vs. Mitchell Mustangs

The Calvary Christian Warriors will head out to face off against the Mitchell Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Calvary Christian is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Calvary Christian is headed into this one coming off a big win against nationally ranked Lake Brantley (Calvary Christian was ranked 12th at the time). The Warriors were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Patriots on Friday. Considering the Warriors have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Morgen Talley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Braylee Rano, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Morgan Spinner, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Rano wasn't the only one making solid contact: Calvary Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mitchell fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Steinbrenner on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Calvary Christian's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Mitchell, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.

Calvary Christian skirted past Mitchell 5-4 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
