Basketball Recap: Southwest Dekalb Starts Season with Win Against Union Grove

Southwest DeKalb took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Union Grove Wolverines as they made off with a 77-55 victory.

Jackson Ushery was nothing short of spectacular: he went 9-for-14 en route to 23 points and three steals. Those 23 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Thomas Glanton, III, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 16 points and seven assists.

Southwest DeKalb was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. They racked up nine more assists than Union Grove's also-impressive total of 14.

When it comes to explaining why Union Grove lost, don't look at Langston Jones. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points. Kennington England was another key player, putting up nine points.

Southwest DeKalb didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 70-29 win against Arabia Mountain on the 13th. As for Union Grove, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on North Oconee at 7:00 p.m. on the 25th.
