Softball Game Preview: Foxcroft Academy Ponies vs. Mattanawcook Lynx

The Foxcroft Academy Ponies will take on the Mattanawcook Lynx at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Foxcroft Academy fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Washington Academy on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 5-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Ponies in their meetings with the Raiders: they've now lost four in a row.

Lili Bisson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Foxcroft Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Allie Kane, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Mattanawcook faced Bucksport in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Lynx lost 11-1 to the Golden Bucks. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Lynx have suffered since April 22, 2024.

Foxcroft Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Mattanawcook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foxcroft Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .316. However, it's not like Mattanawcook struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Foxcroft Academy might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Mattanawcook when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Ponies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
