The Gray-New Gloucester Patriots will challenge the Dirigo Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Gray-New Gloucester comes in on three and Dirigo on four.
Gray-New Gloucester came out on top against Leavitt on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Patriots put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 9-3 victory.
Seth Espling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Espling was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Griffin Richmond was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Jake Mulry was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Gray-New Gloucester always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Dirigo let Spruce Mountain stack five runs on them in the seventh inning on Friday but luckily Dirigo prevailed anyway. The Cougars walked away with a 9-6 win over the Phoenix.
Like Gray-New Gloucester, Dirigo also got a great game from a two-way player: Hudson Lufkin. He pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Lufkin was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
Lufkin wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Crosby, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Another was Leighton Waite, who went 1-for-4 with two runs.
Dirigo's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Gray-New Gloucester, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Gray-New Gloucester came out on top in a nail-biter against Dirigo when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
