Baseball Game Preview: Aliso Niguel Wolverines vs. Segerstrom Jaguars

The Aliso Niguel Wolverines will be taking part in a tournament against the Segerstrom Jaguars at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Aliso Niguel: 3.7, Segerstrom: 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Aliso Niguel barely beat Mission Viejo the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Aliso Niguel never let Mission Viejo get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Saturday. That looming 10-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wolverines yet this season.

Cooper Flemming made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Flemming was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Jarett Sabol was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. He also got three hits, which is notable because Aliso Niguel is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Austin Hays was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Segerstrom's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Irvine on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Jaguars in their matchups with the Vaqueros: they've now lost three in a row.

The win was the third in a row for Aliso Niguel, bringing their record for this year to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Segerstrom, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Aliso Niguel was able to grind out a solid victory over Segerstrom in their previous meeting back in March of 2021, winning 4-0. Does Aliso Niguel have another victory up their sleeve, or will Segerstrom turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
