Baseball Recap: Clairemont Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Clairemont dropped their record down to 14-6 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They lost 14-4 to the Mission Bay Buccaneers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Chieftains have suffered since April 19, 2024.

Brendan Weiss made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run.

As for Mission Bay, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Mission Bay's side, Van Playman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Playman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vince Kasunich, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Gavin Griffiths was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Clairemont beat Mission Bay by a score of 9-4 on Tuesday.
