Softball Recap: Alexander Comes Up Short

Alexander extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 11 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They came up short against the Meigs Marauders, falling 7-1. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Jordan Sheets and Kaylee Hudnall did some serious damage despite the final result: Sheets went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run, while Hudnall went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Sheets has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Gwen Dunfee also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

As for Meigs, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

On Meigs' side, Alexander's batters probably weren't too happy with Gracie Banks, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up two walks).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Newell, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. Bella Roush was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Alexander is set to square off against their familiar foe River Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Meigs will take on rival Wellston at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
