Baseball Recap: Westview Sets Scoring Season-High Against Cortez

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westview). They blew past the Cortez Colts 20-7 on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Knights needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Rafael Ochoa was a standout: he scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Westview is undefeated when Ochoa posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Jordan Perez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Westview's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-9. As for Cortez, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14-1 record this season.

Westview will square off against La Joya Community at 2:45 p.m. on Friday. The Fighting Lobos will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cortez, they will take on Ganado at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
