Softball Recap: Jal Wins Going Away Against Eunice

Jal barely beat Eunice the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers blew past the Cardinals 16-7 on Tuesday. Considering the Panthers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Johnna Butts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Butts was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jal let Abigal Dardon and Alexa Talavera run wild. Dardon went 3-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Talavera got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Dardon a new career-high. Amylah Melancon was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run.

Jal always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eunice only posted an OBP of .400.

Jal is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-10 record this season. As for Eunice, they dropped their record down to 9-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Jal beat the Cardinals by a score of 11-9 later that day.
