The Cuthbertson Cavaliers will head out on the road to square off against the Myers Park Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cuthbertson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Cuthbertson's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-0 win over Porter Ridge. That's two games straight that the Cavaliers have won by exactly three runs.
Not much got past Georgia McConnell, who gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks to keep Porter Ridge off the board. McConnell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Cuthbertson's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Martens, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Grace Murray was another, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Cuthbertson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Porter Ridge only posted a batting average of .240.
Meanwhile, Myers Park came tearing into Tuesday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Sabres 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
Anna Eason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Myers Park got a massive performance out of Camille Christian, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Christian a new career-high. Madeline Shuford also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Myers Park pushed their record up to 6-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.67 hits in those games compared to only 5.14 in the others. As for Cuthbertson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.
Cuthbertson took their win against Myers Park in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cuthbertson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
