Basketball Game Preview: Southport Cardinals vs. Roncalli Royals

The Southport Cardinals will square off against the Roncalli Royals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Saturday, Southport came up short against New Palestine and fell 77-64. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while the Dragons are ranked eighth).

Roncalli has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 68-64 heartbreaker at the hands of Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter. That's two games in a row now that the Royals have lost by exactly four points.

Southport's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Roncalli, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.

Southport skirted past Roncalli 51-49 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Does Southport have another victory up their sleeve, or will Roncalli turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
