Baseball Recap: Monterey Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Monterey ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Palma Chieftains, sneaking past 12-11. Surprisingly, this marked the Dores' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Johnny Money made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Monterey's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 6-15 when he doesn't). Money was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Money wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Rose, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI Rose has posted since back in May of 2024. Aiden Velarde also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Monterey's record is now 9-15. As for Palma, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 18-6 record.
