Basketball Recap: Wheatley Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Wheatley waltzed into their game on Thursday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They claimed a resounding 68-19 victory over the Washington Eagles. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 528th, while the Eagles are ranked 1367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Wheatley to victory were Caria Thomas and Jamie Solomon. Thomas went 9 of 14 on her way to 23 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Solomon went 10 for 24 en route to 27 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Solomon has scored at least a third of Wheatley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Da'Nasia Parrish, who posted eight points.

Wheatley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 34 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Wheatley's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points per game. As for Washington, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-11.
