Baseball Recap: Coventry Takes a Loss

After flying high against Granby Memorial on Wednesday, Coventry came back down to earth. The Patriots fell 12-9 to the Manchester Red Hawks on Thursday.

Dominic Deangelis and Collin Harrington stepped up to the plate in a big way. Deangelis went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Harrington went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Harrington is becoming a predictor of Coventry's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 3-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Matteo Albano, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Coventry has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Manchester, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coventry will take on Stafford at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Manchester, they will square off against Edwin O. Smith at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
