Softball Game Preview: Mercy Tigers vs. North Haven Nighthawks

The Mercy Tigers will challenge the North Haven Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Mercy lost 9-3 to Law on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, North Haven fell victim to Cheshire and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Rams by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Nighthawks have suffered against the Rams since May 6, 2019.

Brianna Palmese was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

The defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 2-2. As for North Haven, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Mercy beat North Haven 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Nighthawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
