Basketball Game Preview: Provo Bulldogs vs. Payson Lions

Provo and Payson are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Provo Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Payson Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Provo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.4 points per game this season.

Provo can't be too worried about heading out to take on Payson: they just beat Timpanogos at home, who had been dominant on their own court up to that point. Provo walked away with a 67-59 victory over Timpanogos on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

It was another big night for Makai Allen, who went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points and three steals. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin DeMartini, who posted 12 points along with five boards and four steals.

Meanwhile, Payson faced Layton Christian Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Payson took a 64-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Layton Christian Academy. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Provo is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for Payson, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-5.

Provo came up short against Payson in their previous matchup on January 10th, falling 74-61. Can Provo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
