Carrollton is 0-9-1 against Marlington since March of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Warriors will challenge the Dukes at 5:00 p.m. Carrollton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Carrollton will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against East Liverpool on Wednesday. The Warriors came out on top against the Potters by a score of 12-8. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Potters: they've now won four in a row.
Reagan Schneiders looked comfortable as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Paityn Crank was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Samantha Bajornas also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Carrollton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are undefeated (4-0) when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Marlington got the win against Alliance on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-1. The Dukes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.
Lydia Duncan looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chelsea Miller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Walder, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Marlington is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Carrollton, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.
Both Carrollton and Marlington just can't seem to miss. The Warriors have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Marlington struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carrollton suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Marlington in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
