Basketball Recap: Arapahoe Falls Despite Big Games from Emma Strand and Cadence Carpenter

If Arapahoe was riding high fresh off their 52-30 takedown of Cambridge last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Arapahoe Warriors lost 60-40 to the Southwest Roughriders on Monday. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-12.

Arapahoe's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Cadence Carpenter, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds, and Emma Strand, who posted ten points.

Even though they lost, Arapahoe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Leading Southwest to victory were Aspen Billeter and Kyra Nelms. Billeter went 10 for 16 on her way to 23 points in addition to five boards and three steals, while Nelms went 5 of 7 en route to 11 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Truksa, who had six points and three steals.

Arapahoe's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-6. As for Southwest, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

Arapahoe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 50-31 loss against Southern Valley on the 30th. As for Southwest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-47 win against Alma on the 30th.
