Basketball Recap: Anabella Portillo Key Part of a Team Effort in Lions Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Clint duked it out withFabens on Tuesday. Everything went the Clint Lions' way against the Fabens Wildcats as the Clint Lions made off with a 43-21 victory. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clint to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anabella Portillo, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 18 points and three steals. Portillo has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Davana Carrasco, who went 5 for 12 en route to 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Clint was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Fabens lost, don't look at Christine Lechuga. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points.

Clint pushed their record up to 19-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.0 points per game. As for Fabens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-10 record this season.

Clint will square off against San Elizario at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Fabens, they will face off against Mountain View at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Mountain View: 28.8, Fabens: 29.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
