Softball Preview: West County Bulldogs vs. Central Rebels

West County is 2-8 against Central since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The West County Bulldogs will head out on the road to square off against the Central Rebels at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

West County's hitters might be in the hot seat on Thursday considering what happened against Valle Catholic on Monday. Their rough 8-0 loss to the Warriors might stick with them for a while. The matchup marked the first time this season in which West County was not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Central faced Scott City in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. Central fell 12-7 to Scott City.

Kaydence Cosby was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Alexis Portell was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Central was hitting in the alleys and finished the game with six doubles. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scott City only hit two.

West County are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7. As for Central, their record now sits at 12-7.

West County took their win against Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for West County since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
