Burleson is 0-3 against Mansfield Timberview since October of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Elks will square off against the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Friday, Burleson came up short against The Colony and fell 29-19.
Burleson's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Andrew Sparks, who rushed for 83 yards on only nine carries, and Nathan Jackson, who rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown.
While Burleson came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for The Colony: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Jayden Flournoy for the heroic effort on defense: he. Burleson hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.36 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 14-14 at halftime, Mansfield Timberview was not quite Mansfield Summit's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 39-29 to the Jaguars. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Burleson will need to focus on slowing down Cedric Portley, one of several Mansfield Timberview players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for nine yards and three scores. Braylin Barnett also helped out with an impressive 94 receiving yards.
Mansfield Timberview didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Geraci Martin, Jarvis Smith, and Davin Hill picked up one apiece. Ernesto Loeung Chavez was another major factor on D, making 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Burleson's record now sits at 3-3. As for Mansfield Timberview, their record is now 4-3.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Burleson has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 204.5 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Mansfield Timberview, though, as they've been averaging only 96.1 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Burleson came up short against Mansfield Timberview in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, falling 14-10. Can the Elks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
