Basketball Recap: Covenant Classical Takes a Loss

After flying high against Cornerstone Christian Academy on Thursday, Covenant Classical came back down to earth. The Covenant Classical Warriors fell to the Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy Patriots 39-35. The Warriors were up 26-10 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the defeat, Covenant Classical saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ava Gromis dropped a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. The matchup was Gromis' third in a row with at least 15 points.

Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Leia Garrett out in front who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 15 boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Garrett has scored at least a third of Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Williams, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds.

Covenant Classical now has a losing record of 7-8. As for Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Covenant Classical wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 66-19 loss against Arborbrook Christian Academy on the 7th. As for Liberty Preparatory Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 57-21 win against Providence Classical on the 3rd.
