Basketball Game Preview: Kearney Catholic Stars vs. Scotus Shamrocks

The Kearney Catholic Stars will square off against the Scotus Shamrocks at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Kearney Catholic made easy work of Hershey and carried off a 57-35 victory. The Stars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Kearney Catholic had a senior duo take command as Owen Axmann posted 23 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals and Zac Conner scored 13 points and six boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Axmann has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Oliver Sharp, who earned seven points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Scotus didn't have quite enough to beat Bishop Neumann on Friday and fell 60-57. The Shamrocks have struggled against the Cavaliers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

The win made it two in a row for Kearney Catholic and bumps their season record up to 10-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.5 points. As for Scotus, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-5.

Kearney Catholic strolled past Scotus in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 by a score of 61-47. Will Kearney Catholic repeat their success, or does Scotus have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
