Preview: Mansfield Summit Jaguars vs. Texas Tigers
Two dominant backs in Amare Burgess and Tradarian Ball are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mansfield Summit Jaguars will head out on the road to face off against the Texas Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mansfield Summit walked away with it. They breezed by Seagoville on the road to the tune of 37-7. The victory was familiar territory for Mansfield Summit who now have five in a row.
The critical scores for Mansfield Summit came from Joseph Williams, Burgess, and Michael Freeman.
Meanwhile, everything went Texas' way against Terrell on Friday as Texas made off with a 51-28 victory. Given Texas' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Terrell is ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Javari Johnson was a one-man wrecking crew for Texas as he rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Ball also helped out as he racked up 100 rushing yards.
Their wins bumped Mansfield Summit to 8-3 and Texas to 10-1.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Mansfield Summit has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 195.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Texas struggles in that department as they've been even better at 224.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
