Softball Game Preview: Eastern View Cyclones vs. King George Foxes

Eastern View is 1-9 against King George since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Cyclones will challenge the Foxes. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Eastern View is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Powhatan, sneaking past 2-1.

Cailin Rendell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eastern View saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Stiffler, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was Stiffler's first of the season.

Eastern View hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Powhatan struck out 11 times.

Meanwhile, King George had already won 12 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it 13 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Raiders. Three seems to be a good number for the Foxes as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

King George also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kelsea Minter gave up a run (which was unearned) on six hits.

King George pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Eastern View, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Eastern View has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 13.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like King George struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
