Softball Preview: Evansville Blue Devils vs. Clinton Cougars
The Evansville Blue Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Clinton Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Evansville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Evansville's offense. They lost 10-0 to Turner on Thursday.
The home team had come away the winner the last five times Clinton and Big Foot had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Cougars put the hurt on the Chiefs with a sharp 15-4 victory on Thursday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Andie Bell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, London Winch was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keylee Vander Pal, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Clinton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Big Foot only posted a batting average of .192.
Evansville's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Clinton, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 16-7.
Evansville came out on top in a nail-biter against Clinton in their previous matchup last Tuesday, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
