Baseball Game Preview: Luray Bulldogs vs. Clarke County Eagles

The Luray Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Clarke County Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Luray turned things around against Page County on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers a 1-0 shutout.

The result came thanks to Conner Hilliard's shutout, as he gave up just five hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Clarke County hadn't done well against Madison County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Eagles skirted past the Mountaineers 4-3. The victory was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on five straight.

Clarke County pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Luray, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

Everything went Luray's way against Clarke County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Luray made off with an 8-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
