The Charlestown Pirates will head out to take on the Brownstown Central Braves at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Charlestown will be strutting in after a win while Brownstown Central will be coming in after a loss.
Charlestown will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against New Washington on Wednesday. The Pirates blew past the Mustangs 18-0. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.
Aleyah Glotzbach looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had over her last five contests.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ella Shaw, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Isabella Watkins was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Charlestown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Brownstown Central fell victim to Floyd Central and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Highlanders. The Braves have struggled against the Highlanders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Shyla Steele spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
Charlestown is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Brownstown Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.
Brownstown Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Charlestown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Brownstown Central, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Charlestown keep running through batters, or will the Braves buck the trend?
Charlestown took their win against Brownstown Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
