Basketball Recap: Nantahala Takes a Loss

Nantahala lost against Andrews back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Nantahala Hawks had to suffer through a 86-33 loss at the hands of the Andrews Wildcats. The Hawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-15.

Nantahala's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landon Neal, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Fernado Trejo, who put up nine points.

Andrews' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ty Clark, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 22 points and eight rebounds. Clark is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Braxton Rickett, who went 9 of 10 on his way to 18 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Nantahala's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5. As for Andrews, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Nantahala wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 78-59 victory against Summit Charter on the 3rd. As for Andrews, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 83-22 win against Blue Ridge Early College on the 7th.
