Baseball Game Preview: Salem Wildcats vs. Teutopolis Wooden Shoes

The Salem Wildcats will head out to challenge the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Salem has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Teutopolis will arrive with nine straight victories.

Friday just wasn't the day for Salem's offense. They came up short against Breese Central on Friday, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Salem saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cody Beard, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Meanwhile, Teutopolis got the win against Flora on Friday by a conclusive 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Wooden Shoes, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Teutopolis pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Salem, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Salem came out on top in a nail-biter against Teutopolis in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
