Basketball Recap: Make It Eight in a Row for Grafton

Grafton came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 61-44 win over the New Kent Trojans. Given the Clippers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Trojans are ranked 275th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Grafton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Taylor Ragland out in front who went 7 for 16 on her way to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. The match was Ragland's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Hope Barnard, who went 7 of 14 en route to 22 points and seven assists.

Grafton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Grafton pushed their record up to 13-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for New Kent, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Grafton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 50-44 victory against Lafayette on the 6th. New Kent has also already played their next matchup (against Jamestown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
