Baseball Recap: San Juan Sets Scoring Season-High Against North Summit

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask San Juan). They put the hurt on the North Summit Braves with a sharp 20-8 victory on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Broncos as they're now sitting on four straight.

Branten Bethea and Talon Mendoza did most of the damage at the plate: Bethea went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double, while Mendoza went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Jake Ivins was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

San Juan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matches.

San Juan's victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for North Summit, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-16.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Juan will host Duchesne at 2:00 p.m. on Monday. The Broncos' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for North Summit, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Sevier at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
